Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the best tourists attractions in Uganda as stated by Cnn and this is because of its magnificent beauty.
Its found in the northeastern part of Uganda and its covers 1442 square kilometers, its found on the border of South Sudan and Uganda
The park’s altitude ranges between 914m and 2750m above sea level.
Kidepo Valley National Park has 2 rivers known as Kidepo and Narus which all disappear in the dry season leaving just pools for wildlife.
The people around the kidepo are the Karamojong people who are also known for their cultural activities which are adorable.
Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the most isolated parks but if you decide to take the long distance to the north, You will wonder of the amazingly beautiful scenery and magnificent beauty.
How to travel to Kidepo Valley National Park.
You can travel to Kidepo both by road or Air transport but driving by Road is more rewarding since you get to see the different amazing sceneries in Karamoja and along the way, but consider using a 4 wheeled vehicle since the roads are poor.
There are 4 routes that can be used and these are:
- Kampala-karuma-Gulu-Kitgum-kidepo =571km and 10hours of driving.
- Kampala-Karuma-Lira-Kaabong-Kidepo =705km and 12hours of driving.
- Kampala-Mbale-Sironko-Moroto-Kotido-Kaabong-Kidepo=740km and 13 hours of driving.
- Kampala-Mbale-Soroti-Kotido-Kaabong-Kidepo=792km and 13 hours of driving.
Most of the travelers prefer using the first route because they get to stay in the towns of Chobe and Karuma in the Murchison Falls National Park.
However, for those planning on using a jet should contact their tour companies.
Charter flights to kidepo are arranged from kajjasi in kampala, Kampala Aeroclub, Entebbe with Eagle Aviation.
Kidepo Valley National Park Attractions.
This is the falling and rising grassland plain enclosed by faraway mountains but the valley provides permanent water for wildlife throughout the year.
There are game tracks used for exploring the valley.
It also has several creatures like lions reedbucks, oribis, giraffes and buffaloes within the Narus Valley.
However, on the southern tip of the katurum loop, there exists the Katurum Kopje which is eye-catching due to its excellent views north over the valley in the direction close to the Morungule Moutain range.
Apoka tourism Centre.
Apoka tourism center is where ranger guides are located to accompany travelers for game drives or nature walks.
If you didn’t travel with your private transport, there are also trucks in Apoka offered for hire.
There is also a craft shop having alcoholic beverages, bottled water, books and souvenirs which are all for sale and if you want a meal, its only prepared on request.
Cooking gas and utensils may also be hired for those who want to cook for themselves.
The Morungole range separates the southern boundary of the park and the soars from the plains. it’s also about 2750meters and its crossed by R.Narus and R.Kidepo which support the wildlife in the park.
The area around the mount Morungule can be visited by foot with the company of a tour ranger and the slopes have settlements of the Karamojong who are known to have a unique culture.
Kidepo Valley and Kanangorok Hot Springs.
Even when the Kidepo river dries out in the dry seasons but its still good for you to take a walk.Its 50 meters wide and it contains white sand between the banks which are covered with Borassus palms.
Kanangorok hot springs are located within 11 kilometers past the kidepo River and along the South Sudan border.
it’s also an astonishing place to sit down and have a glimpse of the mountains far away.
They are found near the park headquarters and they provide a great viewing point to seeing wild animals and birds.
